The Jack Daniel Distillery announced the hiring of Lexie Phillips as assistant distiller, making her the first woman to serve in that official capacity for the distillery.

Phillips will collaborate with Master Distiller Chris Fletcher after having worked for Jack Daniel’s for the last seven years in quality control and distillery operations, as well as serving as the distillery’s lead operator in recent years.

As part of her new role, she also will serve as a brand ambassador.

Phillips grew up just outside Lynchburg, Tenn., where the distillery is located and recently played a pivotal role in the release of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Rye. Phillips earned her degree in agricultural science from Middle Tennessee State University. Her husband Josh also works at the distillery as a processor.

“I am honored to step into the role of Assistant Distiller and look forward to working alongside and learning from Chris and the best whiskey makers in the world,” Phillips said in a news release. “Making Tennessee Whiskey has been my life’s passion, and I am grateful to be able to inspire a new generation of women to follow in my footsteps.”

“Lexie brings a deep knowledge of distillery history and a natural talent for whiskey-making to her new position,” said Chris Fletcher. “She represents the future of our craft, and I am thrilled to now have her by my side as we work together to ensure the highest character and quality of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey.”
