A new craft distillery is in the works for the diminutive Faroe Islands, which sit in the middle of the North Atlantic, and the principals are looking for investors.

A crowdfunding campaign began in mid-March for the proposed whisky and gin distillery, to be named Faer Isles Distillery, which will be one of the most northerly in the world once it comes to fruition. Found next to the old Viking village of Kvivik, the acquired land is earmarked for production facilities, warehouses and a visitor center. Scottish LH Stainless/Speyside Copperworks will provide the distillery.

The salty, windy, and humid climate on these isolated islands, according to a news release, is optimal for whisky maturation. Warehouses will be designed like traditional food drying houses so that the whisky will be matured the way meat and fish has been fermented and dried for centuries on the islands. The process utilizes the special humid and salty atmosphere, which is caused by the passing North Atlantic Current that also ensures a stable year-round temperature.

Faer Isles Distillery is allowing cryptocurrencies as payment for company shares. The plan is to later turn the company shares into security tokens and make them tradeable on various crypto exchanges. To become an investor, visit the distillery’s website.
