Introducing America’s Fifth Trademarked Cocktail – the Whiskarita

Bourbon

June 15, 2021

Make way for the Whiskarita – yes, it’s a margarita that replaces tequila with whiskey.

291 Colorado Whiskey trademarked the cocktail, making it the fifth trademarked cocktail in the U.S.

Interestingly, the Whiskarita concept has been around for a full decade — the distillery’s founder and CEO, Michael Myers, started making the cocktail with unaged whiskey, aka white whiskey or white dog, in 2011.

“Margarita? I don’t know her … as a whiskey distiller, I drink whiskey in everything. White whiskey is an American spirit which mixes well in cocktails,” Myers said in a news release. “I created the Whiskarita before I started my distillery and it was the first cocktail served in our tasting room. It’s been a best seller ever since.”

Whiskarita joins a short-list of four other popular cocktails that are trademarked recipes including the Dark ’n Stormy, Sazerac, Pain Killer and Hand Grenade.
