Bourbon

March 3, 2022

On March 3, 1897, President Grover Cleveland signed an act that forever changed American whiskey for the better. But what does that mean, really? And what led to this huge moment in bourbon?

Those are the questions, and in his latest video, Fred Minnick offers up some answers. Fred talks about what whiskey drinkers were consuming prior to 1897 and the hazards therein.

“It is one of our country’s first-ever consumer protection acts,” Fred explains in the video. Then he explains just what E. H. Taylor Jr. and others were trying to accomplish by pushing this act into law. Let’s just say, be glad Pres. Cleveland did the right thing.

More than just a style of bourbon, bottled in bond bourbon is American history in a bottle.
