For the second time in the last 18 months, a Texas man was arrested while attempting to break into a rickhouse at Maker’s Mark Distillery.

As reported by The Lebanon Enterprise, Marion County Sheriff’s deputies were alerted by Maker’s Mark employees to a person who was trespassing on the property on the morning of Jan. 18. Deputies arrived shortly after 10 a.m. and found Christian P. Douglas, 29, of Mesquite, Texas, outside a rickhouse. He had been stopped by Maker’s Mark employees near Hollow Lane.

Douglas had allegedly cut a lock and was attempting to cut another. He also was using a propane torch to burn a door on the rickhouse, per the report. Marion County deputies reportedly also found tools such as bolt cutters, propane, torches, and a sledgehammer, among other tools. Douglas also was carrying several thousand dollars in cash.

He has been charged with four crimes: third-degree attempted burglary, third-degree attempted arson, third-degree criminal trespassing and possession of burglary tools. Douglas was jailed, per the report, and later released on bail. His arraignment in Marion District Court is set for the morning of Jan. 30.

The previous incident took place July 9, 2021, when the sheriff’s office was called by Maker’s Mark to report a customer who was saying he had been poisoned and behaving erratically, the Enterprise reported. In that incident, Douglas was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
