Alpine Distilling Honored for Sustainability

Alpine Distilling has been awarded the Green Business Innovation Award by Utah Business Magazine in partnership with Rocky Mountain Power. This accolade recognizes Alpine Distilling’s commitment to environmentally conscious practices, from sustainable sourcing of botanicals to eco-friendly production methods.

“We are incredibly proud to receive the Green Business Award,” Sara Sergent, CEO and Master Botanical Distiller of Alpine Distilling, said in a news release. “At Alpine, sustainability is not just a practice; it’s a philosophy we’ve had since the beginning. Every step we take to protect the environment is a step toward a better future for our industry and our planet.”

As environmental stewards of the Wasatch, Alpine Distilling has embraced eco-friendly practices since its founding in 2016. Guided by its internal environmental policy, Utah Spirit, the distillery ensures that every aspect of its distillation, distribution, and hospitality operations takes an environment-first approach, designed to reduce waste with innovative techniques that maximize efficiency while maintaining the highest quality in their products and service. Environmentally-sustainable practices include:

  • A separate grease trap to collect all spent grains, which in turn, are recycled into renewable energy and bio-based fertilizers through partnership with Wasatch Resource Recovery
  • Water management to include storage, processing, and scaled production to accommodate available natural resources
  • Food Waste diversion through Momentum Recycling in partnership with Summit County and Park City Community Foundation
  • Glass recycling at both locations
  • Early Adaptor of the Green Business Program with Recycle Utah
  • Production facility running entirely on steam
  • Exclusive use of LED lighting 
  • Ethical sourcing of botanicals and ingredients from family-owned farms prioritizing organic farming methods
  • Use of eco-friendly printed cardboard packaging, cutting their cardboard consumption by half in the last year
  • Biodegradable straws and napkins, no plastic cutlery or to-go containers at Alpine Lounge

Alpine Distilling has also gained recognition for its community engagement, collaborating with chefs and local businesses to create unique, sustainable products. The company’s efforts extend beyond the distillery itself as stewards of the community, most recently sitting on a panel with the Utah Sustainable Business Coalition supporting organizations with shared knowledge and common sustainability goals. 

Under Sergent’s leadership and expertise, Alpine Distilling has received international recognition with a highly award-winning portfolio of gin, botanical spirits, and whiskey.
