Whiskey House of Kentucky has been hit with a lien of $1.7 million by Buzick Construction Co., according to media reports.

Bardstown-based Buzick asserts that the distillery, which opened last year, owes the amount for work the contractor did in constructing the distillery. The company also claims that there is an additional contract for more than $6.3 million for further work on the distillery, per reports.

According to the Elizabethtown (Ky.) News-Enterprise, the two parties had been negotiating an agreement prior to the court filing in Hardin County.

“I think the (two companies) are working actively to resolve that,” an unnamed Whiskey House spokesperson told the newspaper. “I know there have been conservations and it has gotten to the point where they filed the lien, but it was not for a lack of trying.”

Buzick also has contracted for Buffalo Trace Distillery, Lux Row Distillers, Heaven Hill Distillery, Maker’s Mark and other well known distilleries.

Whiskey House of Kentucky began production last July shortly before securing $115 million in syndicated credit facility from Truist Bank, U.S. Bank, First Horizon Bank, Rabobank, and CoBank.

“We could not be more excited by the successful completion of our recent capital raise,” Whiskey House co-founder and CEO David Mandell said at the time. “The magnitude of the deal and the support of some of the leading banks in the region not only demonstrates the strength of our business, the stability of our customers and contracts, and the confidence of our financial partners, but also provides us with immense flexibility to respond to our customers needs.”

The distillery is more than 100,000 square feet with a sophisticated manufacturing system that runs on proprietary software. The facility has been operating in full automation mode, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
