New Era Whiskey Zane Brammell

This time around in our ongoing series Five Questions, we’re talking whiskey with New Era Whiskey co-founder Zane Brammell.

Brammell is a native of Eastern Kentucky, and was in the healthcare industry until the Covid pandemic shifted his focus. During that time, he began exploring new hobbies. His father had begun collecting bourbon, igniting Brammell’s interest in America’s spirit.

I really enjoy Hidden Barn — basically everything Royce touches turns to gold — and anything from Dark Arts Whiskey House here in Lexington, Ky. Macaulay’s blending is nothing short of artistry.

Neat, rocks or cocktail?

It really just depends on the day. If it’s my first time trying a particular brand, I prefer it neat. However, if I’m out with friends, there’s nothing wrong with a well-made cocktail. It’s not whiskey, but I love a good Pixie Stix martini …
