WhistlePig Calls for Rye to be Declared America’s Official Whiskey
As America approaches its 250th anniversary, WhistlePig Whiskey is introducing two new offerings and calling on Americans to recognize Rye as the country’s official whiskey.
At the center of the initiative is a nationwide petition, co-signed and endorsed by Max Miller of Tasting History, inviting Americans to declare Rye as America’s official whiskey, while honoring the grain that shaped the nation’s earliest whiskey traditions.
Known for bringing history to life through food and drink, Miller helps connect audiences to Rye’s important role in early American culture and distilling. From now through July 4, fans and patriots alike can sign the petition at WhistlePig’s website. Hit 1,776 signatures and WhistlePig will take it straight to Congress.
“Rye isn’t just part of American whiskey history – it is American whiskey history,” WhistlePig CEO Alex Roberts said in a news release. “Before bourbon, there was Rye. Rye was a common grain in early American whiskey production and it defined how this country drank. As America turns 250, we’re raising a glass to the original.”
Guided by their founding father of craft distilling, Dave Pickerell, WhistlePig Whiskey has been a longtime champion of Rye whiskey and continues to experiment with new grains and bold releases to redefine American whiskey craftsmanship. To mark the occasion, WhistlePig is introducing two limited-time releases:
Available beginning May 20 at select retailers and on WhistlePig’s website, these releases are designed to carry the celebration all season long.
