Your Dreams Have Come True: The $500 vodka shot

News

Are you looking for something to hate this week? Tired of complaining about hard-to-find Pappy? Well, look no more.

The Internet did not let you down.

In St. Louis, the Sub Zero Vodka Bar is offering you $500 1.5-ounce pours of ELIT by Stolichnaya Pristine Water Series vodkas.

You read that right–$500. For a shot.

I know you’re just a rum or whiskey drinker, and you’re struggling to understand. So let me put it in your context: That one shot brings you the same value as 16 bottles of Four Roses Small Batch or 22 bottles of Doorly’s 12-year-old Barbados rum. Of course, there’s a reason for this steep vodka price.

Only 300 bottles of each Elit bottle were distributed.

“Vodka is nearly 60% water, so it has a huge impact on the taste and experience of the spirit,” says Derek Gamlin, proprietor of Gamlin Restaurant Group, in a press release. “These vodkas undergo a slightly different distillation process that maintains more of the characteristics of the hearty winter wheat from Russia. When this is combined with these unique water sources the result it one of the cleanest, best-tasting vodkas we’ve tried.”
That said, if you love vodka, Sub Zero is the place to go. It has more than 500 different varieties, the company said. And their burgers look amazing.

But let me not digress: Does this mean vodka’s back to being cool?

Yes, it does. And as I mentioned in a recent Whisky Advocate piece, you should start vodka hunting. Bourbon is so 2008.
