When Heaven Hill created the Old Fitzgerald decanter series a few years ago, I was so excited and hoped it mean the rightful return of Old Fitz in the upper echelon of bourbons.
While some releases were really good (11 year in 2018 and 9 year in 2019), most fell flatter than I had hoped. I’ve always wondered if Heaven Hill’s barrel entry proof–125–hurt its wheated bourbon recipe. Other wheated bourbons have much lower entry proofs and definitely come out softer.
So imagine my surprise to find that the latest Old Fitz BIB release was a complicated bomb that had a finish that just wouldn’t quit! It’s so delicious, and I hope to buy a whole damn case if given the opportunity. See my review.Stay In Touch!
