Old Log Cabin Teams with Shogo Ota, AI on New Label Design
Old Log Cabin Distillery announced it has partnered with renowned local artist Shogo Ota and Mukilteo WA-based, Advanced Labels NW to label its spirits in a Northwest combination of artistry and technology.
The printing technique uses artificial intelligence which allows for hyper-detailed textures and visuals, and infinite possibilities for creating unique labels to ensure that no two bottles are the same.
“When we set out to create new labels for Batch 206 Vodka and Counter Gin, we wanted to celebrate our home in the Pacific Northwest, specifically the surrounding landscape for the botanicals in our gin and the Puget Sound for the clean, clear nature of our vodka,” Ben Capdevielle, Distiller, Old Log Cabin Distillery, said in a news release. “Our friendship with Shogo Ota and our partnership with Advanced Labels made these singular and collectible new bottles possible and we are thrilled to share them with design and spirits enthusiasts.”
Both new labels complement each other with colorful illustrations created by Ota. When paired together, they are a living visual narrative of the region’s local culture and scenery. The Batch 206 Vodka label focuses on the ecosystem found above and below the surface of Puget Sound, with images of native salmon, Orca whales, seals, and other aquatic life, including an octopus holding a tiny martini glass.
The Counter Gin label, meanwhile, salutes the rich diversity of plants and animals in the region, as well as Seattle icons like the Space Needle, ferries, the Monorail and even the historic Kingdome.
Ota is known for his versatile style and his work has been featured on expansive public murals, Seattle Kraken hockey jerseys, Starbucks packaging and most recently, his artwork was selected for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Seattle host city poster. Shogo Ota’s design studio, Tireman Studio is located on an island in Puget Sound.
“The Old Log Cabin team and I worked together to come up with the land and water themes for the new gin and vodka labels and I was inspired by a lot of beautiful nature and animals in the Pacific Northwest,” Ota said. “The important part was figuring out how I could include many sea creatures and animals with good balance, layout and exciting vibe,” “Both the gin and vodka make great drinks at home and local bars, but I am also hoping that people from other states or countries see them as great souvenirs or gifts to bring home from Seattle. There are a lot of stories on the labels, so it will be amazing if the people create some new stories with them.”
Artificial Intelligence Enables Collectible Art
Advanced Labels NW and Labels West took Shogo Ota’s illustrations and applied a trio of advanced AI techniques to bring depth, interactivity, and texture to the label. A variable design process means each bottle features a different section of the original artwork when viewed from the back of the bottle—inviting consumers to find a favorite, whether it’s an otter, a skyline, or a hidden detail tied to the Pacific Northwest.
Two-sided printing extends the imagery into the bottle itself, creating layered visuals and a dimensional screen finish which adds tactile interest, highlighting key elements while maintaining the integrity of the art.
