Cruzan Rum Releases Island Reserve 13 Year Old
Cruzan Rum announced the oldest aged rum to date to be released from the Cruzan Distillery on St Croix: introducing Cruzan Island Reserve 13 Year Old.
The 13 Year Old represents a new chapter from the Cruzan Distillery in St. Croix of the U.S. Virgin Islands, a blend of three exceptional rums aged for 13, 16, and 20 years in bourbon barrels hand-selected by the blending team led by Quality Manager Cole McCreary.
It is available now in the U.S. with an SRP of $39.99 a 750-ml. bottle.
“The Island Reserve represents the best of what our blending team can do here in St. Croix,” McCreary said in a news release. “Every so often, some of these treasures wash ashore on the mainland, so to speak, and we’re thrilled to share this inaugural 13 Year Old batch with consumers – I think this will be hugely appreciated by rum fans and folks who love sipping well aged whiskies alike.”
Cruzan Rum is known for being a light style rum with a smooth house style as a result of the five column distillation process. Each component in the Island Reserve 13 Year Old blend is an exceptional rum that has been aged in barrels that previously held Bourbon and has been aged on St. Croix. The annual angel’s share losses are high as 5% per year in St Croix, leading to total of approximately 800 barrels being used to create this final blend.
The components of the blend are as follows: 13 Year (48%); 16 Year (22%) and 20 Year (30%).
The final Island Reserve 13 Year Old blend is a creation wherein the 13-year rum contributes prominent sweet notes at the front of the palate, the 16-year rum adds a complex body, and the 20-year rum provides a long, smooth finish that lingers on the palate.
Sales from the Island Reserve series partially benefit Cruzan’s Island Spirit Fund, an initiative giving back to the St. Croix community.
