Clase Azul México Releases Blanco Ahumado
Clase Azul México announced the release of Clase Azul Tequila Blanco Ahumado. The brand’s most recent expression joins five existing tequilas and three mezcals.
In the search to share new expressions of this heritage, Clase Azul has rescued ancestral tequila-making methods and combined them with the artisanal mastery and attention to detail that distinguishes the brand.
Clase Azul Tequila Blanco Ahumado is achieved by cooking blue agave cores in an oven with ancient origins; a pit dug into the ground and lit with firewood and volcanic rocks. During cooking, the flames that light the firewood barely touch the agave; it is the rocks that transmit the necessary heat.
The agave is then shredded before continuing onto fermentation, where the juice and fibers extracted from the plant come together with Clase Azul’s proprietary yeast that was developed from wild varieties selected from their agave fields. Lastly, the liquid is double distilled in custom-made copper stills.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the creation of the new icon, Viridiana Tinoco, Master Distiller at Clase Azul México, said, “Looking to achieve a smoky profile for this tequila, I set out to capture the essence of traditional mezcal-making, reinterpreting each stage of the process to elevate the unique character of the blue agave, but this time through a deliberate act.”
Clase Azul Tequila Blanco Ahumado is an expression with a subtle touch of smoke that is imbued with the essence of Los Altos de Jalisco, the home of Clase Azul México, where all the brand’s tequilas are made. The decanter for this tequila stands out for its unique materials, reminders of the traditional methods employed in the making of the spirit it contains.
The semi- opaque glass alludes to the smoke during the cooking process, the texture of its dark ceramic base to the volcanic rocks that cook the agave cores, and the cap and emblem, both copper in color, to the stills used to distill the tequila.
Clase Azul Tequila Blanco Ahumado is available in a 750 ml decanter, 45% ABV (90 proof), for $250 USD. Its inaugural release is presented in an exclusive case that celebrates its debut as Clase Azul’s newest expression — available while supplies last.
