Desert Door original texas sotol bottle

Desert Door Texas Sotol announced today its national distribution plan that will land the Texas-based spirit in 46 of 50 states, plus Washington D.C. by the end of 2025.

Currently available in 20 states, Desert Door’s tiered expansion plan will place the product in 11 additional markets by September, with three – Illinois, Indiana, and Louisiana – launching this month.

Founded by veterans in 2017, Desert Door has been a pioneer in the sotol category, introducing consumers to the rare but storied spirit distilled from the dasylirion texanum plant, which spans the dry, desert-like regions of West Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and Northern Mexico.

Often mistaken for agave due to its appearance, sotol’s distinctive plant, coupled with Desert Door’s unique and sustainable harvesting and distillation methods, produces a uniquely complex and flavorful spirit that is similar to tequila.

By the end of September 2025, sotol fans and newcomers can expect to find Desert Door on shelves in Washington D.C., Maryland, Kentucky, Washington, Hawaii, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska. An additional 16 states are set to join the lineup by the end of December. Desert Door’s portfolio features three core expressions available for purchase:

  • Original Texas Sotol, the brand’s flagship product
  • Oak-Aged Texas Sotol, aged for two years in new American oak barrels
  • Pollinator, infused with 10 native Texas botanicals and part of the brand’s Conservation Series

The distillery’s national expansion is accelerating, powered by a strategic alignment with Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC), one of the nation’s premier wholesale beverage alcohol distributors. This strengthened partnership is poised to significantly amplify and enhance Desert Door’s reach and national market presence – reinforcing its leadership in the sotol and sustainable spirits categories.

“Aligning with RNDC represents a critical strategic milestone, expanding our reach and strengthening our route to market,” Brent Looby, Founder and CEO of Desert Door, said in a news release. “Their expansive network and deep industry expertise are key to reaching new audiences nationwide. I genuinely believe that sotol will surpass mezcal in the market in the next five years, and I think we’re one step closer to that today.”

Desert Door’s partnership announcement with RNDC comes on the heels of another integral partnership announcement with popular Western lifestyle brand, Tecovas. As of April 2025, Desert Door Original Texas Sotol became an official partner of all Tecovas retail stores nationwide (where legal) as part of their in-store bar program, as well as appearing at several Tecovas events and activations throughout the year.

Launched in 2017, Desert Door was the first commercially produced sotol in the country. ‘Sotol’ is both the name of the unique spirit produced by Desert Door and the plant from which the spirit is made. A distant cousin of the agave plant, sotol grows wild across West Texas. Desert Door’s sotol is wild-harvested, removing the need for harmful farming practices such as fertilizers, pesticides, or irrigation and conserving land and water. A true ranch-to-glass spirit that tastes unquestionably of the land, with no added sugars, artificial flavors, or color. Desert Door has three principal products: Original Texas Sotol, Oak-Aged Texas Sotol, and the Pollinator, originally part of their Conservation Series. Proceeds from all Pollinator bottles sold benefit the brand’s nonprofit, Wild Spirit Wild Places. For more, visit desertdoor.com.
