Bunnahabhain Turas Math No.1 BOTTLE AND PACK SHOT White Background

Bunnahabhain, the Islay distillery known for its unpeated style, announced the U.S. arrival of Turas Math No.1. This limited-edition single malt marks the beginning of the Westering Home Collection, a three-part annual series that celebrates Bunnahabhain’s maritime roots and spirit of exploration.

Named after the Scots Gaelic phrase “Turas Math” — meaning “good journey” — this inaugural release invites whisky lovers to embark on a voyage of flavor and discovery.

Crafted by Master Blender Julieann Fernandez, Turas Math No.1 unites two different cask journeys. A portion of the spirit has been fully matured for 15 years in Manzanilla sherry casks from the coastal bodegas of Jerez, Spain, offering saline elegance, roasted nuts and dried fruit.

This is married with spirit finished for five years in Amarone wine casks from Veneto, Italy, following ten years in refill oak — adding rich, dark fruit, treacle toffee and soft herbal warmth.

“With Turas Math No.1, I wanted to capture the feeling of setting out on a journey — full of anticipation, contrast, and discovery,” Fernandez said in a news release. “The Manzanilla casks bring that crisp, structured start, while the Amarone finish offers a lush, rewarding depth. Bringing them together at Bunnahabhain Bay, where both spirits have matured by the sea, creates a single malt that’s layered, harmonious, and deeply rooted in our sense of place.”

Established in 1881, Bunnahabhain is the most northerly of the Islay distilleries and one of the most remote. Bunnahabhain takes its name from the Scottish Gaelic word for ‘mouth of the river’ and refers to the Margadale River from whose clear spring waters the whisky is distilled. Focused on sustainability, Bunnahabhain has the first Net Zero distillation on Islay and is known for its unpeated whisky, due to the pure spring water piped to the distillery and the use of unpeated barley. The combination of sherry casks, which deliver complexity, richness, and sweetness, with the coastal influence of the sea makes its whisky very unique and highly complex.
