Desert Door to Release Cask Strength, Oak-Aged Sotol
Desert Door Distillery, the craft sotol distillery located in Driftwood, Texas, announced the release of its first-ever Cask Strength Oak-Aged Sotol, available exclusively at the distillery beginning Thursday, September 18, 2025.
This release marks the first bottle to join the mainstay lineup since July 2022. To celebrate, the distillery will host a free-to-attend western saloon-themed release party on Saturday, September 20, featuring barrel games, vendors, and brand-new cocktails crafted with the new cask-strength spirit, plus guests will be able to fill and sign their own bottle to take home.
Since opening its doors in 2017, Desert Door has established itself as a producer of both sotol and sustainable clean spirits. In July 2025, the brand expanded distribution to 46 states and Washington, D.C., reflecting continued national demand for its distinctive offerings.
Alongside its three core products — Original Texas Sotol, Oak-Aged Sotol, and Pollinator — Desert Door has released 15 small-batch, limited-edition offerings as part of its Explorer Series. The Cask Strength Oak-Aged Sotol will be available exclusively in the tasting room by the bottle or via cocktails, with plans to make the product available online in the coming years.
“This cask strength expression represents the purest form of our oak-aged sotol — bold, untamed, and unapologetically Texan,” Brent Looby, CEO of Desert Door, said in a news release. “It’s a celebration of the craft, the land, and the community that’s helped us grow from a local Driftwood favorite to a nationally recognized spirit.”
About the Cask Strength Release
Bottled straight from the barrel at around 115 proof, the Cask Strength Sotol delivers a more intense and unfiltered expression of the beloved oak-aged series. Guests can purchase at the tasting room for $70 and will have the option to fill their own bottle straight from the barrel and sign it — a one-of-a-kind personalized keepsake perfect for any bar cart.
Desert Door’s tasting room is open Thursday through Sunday, offering the opportunity to try the new release and purchase a bottle.

ABOUT DESERT DOOR DISTILLERY
Launched in 2017, Desert Door was the first commercially produced sotol in the country. Sotol is both the name of the unique spirit produced by Desert Door and the plant from which the spirit is made. A distant cousin of the agave plant, sotol grows wild across West Texas. Desert Door’s sotol is wild-harvested, removing the need for harmful farming practices such as fertilizers, pesticides, or irrigation and conserving land and water. Desert Door’s 8,000-square-foot distillery and tasting room are located in Driftwood, Texas. For more, visit https://www.desertdoor.com/.
