Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Washington Capitals bottle

The Washington Capitals and Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey announced their fifth Jack Daniel’s Personal Selection Capitals Barrel featuring Single Barrel Tennessee Whiskey selected by Capitals alumni Karl Alzner and Alan May.

Fans in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., can now purchase special Jack Daniel’s Capitals bottles featuring Tennessee Whiskey blended from three specially selected barrels into one unique expression. Fans are encouraged to check with their local retail stores on availability.

“Our partnership with the Washington Capitals continues to be one of the most exciting collaborations we have, and this year’s Personal Selection is truly one-of-a-kind,” Ben Osei, Jack Daniel’s Marketing Manager, said in a news release. “Having Karl Alzner join Alan May in selecting a blend of three incredible barrels has resulted in a unique whiskey with layers of bold, robust flavor that fans are going to love.”

This summer, Alzner and May participated in a whiskey selection experience with distillers from Jack Daniel’s to select the flavor available to fans. The group agreed that all three barrels from the testing should be used for the collection.

“It’s always an honor to participate in the selection process, and I had even more fun this year getting to do it with Karl,” May said. “We take pride in choosing flavors that fans feel connected to and enjoy, and all three of this year’s barrels were too good to not include. I can’t wait for fans to try our one-of-a-kind creation.”

The Jack Daniel’s Personal Collection Program is a highly selective process, with only one out of every 100 barrels produced deemed worthy of the distinction by the team of whiskey makers at Jack Daniel’s. The barrels mature in the highest reaches of Jack Daniel’s barrel houses, where extreme temperature variations dramatically increase the interplay between wood and whiskey. The result is a collection of bold, robust flavors and notes of toasted oak and vanilla that are unique to each individual barrel.

“I really appreciate Jack Daniel’s and the Capitals allowing me to partake in this amazing collaboration with Alan,” Alzner said. “It was such a special and unique experience. I’m looking forward to fans tasting our selection, and I hope that they like it as much as we do.”

This year’s selection marks the fifth time that Jack Daniel’s and the Capitals have collaborated on a single barrel collection. In Nov. 2021, Jack Daniel’s and the Capitals unveiled their first highly successful single barrel personal collection featuring four barrels selected by May during a visit to the Jack Daniel’s Distillery in Lynchburg, TN.
