Bourbon

October 14, 2020

Rock ’n’ roll just got itself another whiskey. Sweet Amber Distilling Co. announced the launch of BLACKENED American Whiskey’s Cask Strength program, starting with Batch 106, a blended whiskey that was aged to the sound of Metallica.

Batch 106 was blended under the direction of master distiller and blender Rob Dietrich and features several bourbons and rye whiskeys, all aged at least eight years. After blending, they are placed in black brandy casks and – per a news release – “pummeled” by a playlist of the heavy metal band, including tracks from the recently release San Francisco Symphony S&M2 concert.

The process behind BLACKENED, which was conceived as a collaboration between Metallica and late master distiller Dave Pickerell, is a “proprietary sonic-enhancement” process the distillery calls BLACK NOISE.

While BLACKENED whiskeys typically are bottled at 90 proof, the Batch 106 Cask Strength is bottled at 110.7. It will be packaged in a commemorative box featuring original, BLACKENED x S&M2 artwork by Squindo.

Batch 106 is available exclusively in Kentucky at Kroger Supermarkets and Tampa at Luekens Wine & Spirits with an SRP of $54.99 per 750ml bottle.
